My favorite stop in the neighborhood! Can't go wrong with anything in the case -- in fact, you should just buy one of everything because it's so well priced anyway!

A staple in Portland, this family-owned bakery offers delicious, freshly baked pastries at an unbeatable price. Located on 82nd, the bakery isn't very flashy outside and the parking lot is hidden in the back, away from the street. Walking into the bakery (from the parking lot) you walk down a long hall before you get to the actual bakery. But once you get to the actual bakery, it's heaven. There are so many options here, both savory and sweet. There are also all kinds of toppings, fillings, and flavors of breads. The price is honestly the best I've seen in Portland in YEARS. Buns will range from $1-4 and they also have items that are more affordable too! Great quality and I always love coming here.

The best Asian bakery for its price. I've been going here for years and I love it. I highly recommend trying their egg tarts and the buns.

A smol mom and pop Chinese bakery with plenty of free parking in the back (entrance is via an alleyway on the right side of the building) I tried the Red Bean Puffs, BBQ Pork Bun, and Custard Bun. The buns were light, fluffy, and absolutely delicious. The Pork Bun was a perfect blend of subtly sweet bread and savory pork and the custard bun was sweet but not overly. My favorite was the red bean puff because they were generous with the red bean filling and the outside was like a soft, crumbly cookie. Neither the filling nor the outside was very sweet at all which was a pleasant surprise. Will definitely be going back to try their egg tarts (they were sold out when I went on a Sunday afternoon) and their wide assortment of pastries and cakes.

In search of pork buns I decided to have some of King's Bakery delivered. Items I tried: baked pork bun, steamed pork bun, pineapple bun, apple pie and the red bean pie. I didn't have an issue with anything, actually I thoroughly enjoyed all of it! Each one was so tasty and very fresh. Now excuse me as I try to resist this Bakery and start my 2022 diet and workout plan.

Chinese bakery is so much more than sweet dough goods and cream. A fully stocked bakery will have sweet and savoury items. Baked, steamed, and puff pastry items. Plain, creamy, frosted or glazed items. If you're in the mood for baked goods that aren't cloyingly sweet, try a Chinese bakery. There are 4 such bakeries all near the Jade Market corridor of SE 82nd. Don't expect much if any ambiance.....they are all typically takeout establishments. Most items can be had for $1.25 to $3. Kings Bakery has been around the longest and is pretty traditional flavor-wise and mid-range, price-wise. Nothing too fancy, and item size is a little on the smallish side. We had a shredded pork bun and a beef curry bun. Above average taste but again, smallish. They also had cakes (again, fruity and typically, not sweet), and bubble tea drinks. Worth a try on future trips.
